Chapter 1: All about the Lebanese Diaspora in

DENMARK

ABOUT THE LEBANESE DIASPORA IN DENMARK

27,021 Lebanese people currently reside in Denmark, according to Statistics Denmark. The Lebanese diaspora in the country can be divided into two groups: the first group includes the Lebanese personnel who were originally born in Lebanon; this group sums up to 12,922 individuals. And the second group includes those who carry a Lebanese descent but, were born in Denmark; this groups sums up 14,099 persons.

Inhabiting different areas of the country, most of the Lebanese diaspora is located in Hovedstaden. But, regardless of where they are dwelling, the Lebanese population established a small community in most corners of Denmark. Navigating through the streets of Denmark’s capital Copenhagen, or the smaller streets of Aarhus, the second biggest city in Denmark, you will sense a bit of Lebanon in the smell of Shawarma sandwiches and Falafel shops, the chattering sound of Lebanese students’ dialect, or even in the smile that instantly pops up on a Lebanese locale’s face when they know you’re Lebanese too.

This chapter will transport you straight into Denmark and will expose you to various cultural aspects that connects this country to Lebanon yet at the same time, distinguishes it from home.
